Ranbir Kapoor star of the cult hit Rockstar film has completed a decade since its release. On the occasion, director Imtiaz Ali revealed how his passion project was conceived long before Ranbir became an actor and that he was not the first choice for the lead role of singer-musician Jordan in the film since the idea had been conceived long before he launched-started his Bollywood journey.

Speaking to HT, Imtiaz said, “If a movie is being talked about and its characters and situations are being dissected ten years after it came out, that’s great. I think that a film belongs more to its spectators than to its directors. I know there are people who own the film a lot more than me. I started trying to do Rockstar even before Ranbir became an actor. So, I was thinking of other actors to play this role. When I met Ranbir, he was oddly familiar with Rockstar history. When he started telling me the story, I saw Jordan in him.”
