Venkat Prabhu’s ‘Maanaadu’ starring Silambarasan was finally released yesterday after facing many issues and the film was highly praised, especially for the brilliant performance by SJ Suryah. However, did you know that SJ Suryah was not the first choice to star in ‘Maanadu’. ETimes reached out to director Venkat Prabhu to find out more about SJ Suryah’s character in the film and the director shared how the actor landed the role of DCP Dhanushkodi in ‘Maanaadu’.

SJ Suryah’s character grabbed the attention of the masses right after the teaser was released but unfortunately the actor was the first choice to play the role. “Aravind Swamy sir was the first choice for the role of SJ Suryah in ‘Maanaadu’. But he could not be part of the film due to delay in filming and other issues. Then I approached SJ Suryah and he really enjoyed the character after It was a happy moment for me to see a great director praising my work and then he got into the movie,” reveals Venkat Prabhu.

While working with SJ Suryah, Venkat Prabhu shares, “Once SJ Suryah sir stepped into the role, he seemed like a perfect match for the role, and he took the movie to the next level with his performance. I had writes his dialogues on the spot, but once he had asked me not to change the dialogue afterwards after several changes. His character will be pleasant in the film, and his frustration on the screen will make you laugh.

Venkat Prabhu wants to direct any genre of movies that gets out of his comfort zone, and his next director with Ashok Selvan is almost ready to release.
