Jack Kennedy confirmed as first choice for Envoy Allen, Quilixios and Ballyadam
By Nick Seddon
Henry de Bromhead has spoken about Cheveley Park Stud’s decision to send him Cheltenham’s top contenders, including Allen send, Ballyadam and Quilixios and confirmed that Jack Kennedy will remain the rider for all three at the Festival, provided he is available.
The horses arrived at Bromhead’s yard on Tuesday and the trainer revealed he had already had a “really useful” phone conversation with Gordon Elliott, who until this week had been in charge of the suitors, only for the owners. make the decision to move them. in light of the emergence of a widely shared image on social media that triggered an investigation by the Irish Horseracing Regulatory Board.
De Bromhead said: “These are obviously not the circumstances in which you would like to get horses, but these are the horses that everyone is trying to get and I feel lucky that Cheveley Park has decided to send them to us. The three who are signed up for Cheltenham include Sending Allen and he looks awesome.
“They came down and they looked great when they got here, so it’s just a matter of trying to tick them off and not let the regime change bother them too much. If we can do as good a job as Gordon did with them, we’ll be happy.
“They came on Tuesday night, and we’re just letting them settle in. They gallop away. You wouldn’t work them, but they’re hacking and they’re awesome.
When asked if he would feel extra pressure from training horses that have been successful elsewhere, de Bromhead said, “Sure you would do it a little bit, but you just try to do your best. and get them there as best they can. you can.
“It’s a big change for them and you try to keep it as simple as possible, but it’s a big change. But they look good and they settled in really well, so we’re just going to check them off and try to get them there in good shape.
Sending Allen is already a double Festival winner after winning the Weatherbys Grade One Bumper Champion in 2019 and the Grade One Ballymore Novices’ Hurdle last year. This time his focus is on the pursuit of first-year Swamp Novices.
De Bromhead said: “He is a magnificent horse and we feel very lucky that Cheveley Park sent him to us.
“Quixilios is both in the Fred Winter and in the Triumph. I haven’t really confirmed this yet, so we’ll discuss it with Cheveley Park at the time to see what we’d like to do. He’s in both, so we’ll get a closer look at the time. Quixilios looks good. We’re just hacking but he seems to have taken it in his stride.
“I imagine we are leaning towards the Supreme with Ballyadam, but we will keep our options open.
“Jack (Kennedy) rode it all year round and he’ll ride all three of them if he’s available.”
